Description

Survivor Moms: Women’s Stories of Birthing, Mothering, and Healing After Sexual Abuse – CE Credit – 5 hrs.
By By Mickey Sperlich and Julia Seng

This book presents narratives and excerpts from 80 very diverse “survivor moms” and information pertinent to the pre-pregnancy, pregnancy, labor, postpartum, attachment and long-term experiences of women during the childbearing year and beyond.

One important goal is to learn about many women’s experiences so that the clients you see will seem to share characteristics with other women whose experiences you have at least read about.

The main objective for this reading is to gather examples to use to address any questions your clients may have, or to make your tutoring more concrete. Even though the book is organized by the unfolding timeline of pregnancy, you should read it with an eye toward the content of the SMC modules.

There are three main objectives for this reading:

  1. To illustrate PTSD symptoms and any related coping ideas that emerge from the narratives
  2. To describe affect dysregulation and any related coping ideas that emerge from the narratives
  3. To explain interpersonal dysregulation and any related coping ideas that emerge from the narratives. . .
